How it works

Tyredog External Sensor

The Wireless Sensors are fitted to the wheels valve stem. Simply replace the valve cap with the TyreDog Wireless Tyre Pressure monitoring sensor.

Once the Sensors are fitted and the monitor/receiver is turned on, within a couple of minutes or once the wheels rotate, the latest Pressure and Temperature information will be updated on the monitor/receiver.

The sensors are constantly monitoring and reading your tyre pressure and temperature and as soon as there is a 1 PSI change in pressure and/or every 1 minute, the sensors will transmit the latest pressure and temperature reading to your monitor.

If the tyre pressure falls or rises above the user pre-set levels, the unit will beep to alert the driver. There is also a visual indication on the Monitor / Receiver unit. Low, High Pressure and High Temperature threshold settings can be adjusted per axle by the user.

For further information regarding the operation of this unit, please read the Owners Manual which can be found by clicking on the Downloads Tab.

Programming Replacement Sensors

TYREDOG™ answers your frequently asked questions regarding TYREDOG™ Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS), setup, sensors and replacements backed by our 25 years of customer feedback, experience and installations.

What is a TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)?

TPMS is a vehicle safety early warning system relating to abnormal tyre pressures in vehicles. Sensors and computers actively monitor tyre pressure underinflation, overinflation and TPMS tyre sensor faults.

TPMS sensors operate as a reliable third eye monitoring your vehicle tyre pressures from a perspective you can't see as a driver or passenger.

How does TPMS work?

TPMS sensors are installed on tyres and transmit valuable tyre pressure data to onboard computer systems ready to detect and alert you to potential vehicle safety concerns relating to tyre pressures.

Some vehicles use there ABS system, active suspension system or other sensors to actively monitor tyre pressures.

Why are TPMS systems important?

Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) are important early warning systems in most modern vehicles for the following reasons;

1. Increase Safety: TPMS sensors alert you when tyre pressures are low which can prevent accidents caused by abnormal or under-inflated tyres. Correct tyre pressures improve driver and passenger safety, vehicle handling, reduce braking distances and decrease the likelihood of tyre blowouts.

2. Increase Fuel Efficiency: Maintaining correct tyre pressures helps your vehicle run more efficiently which can save fuel consumption. Under-inflated tires increase rolling resistance, making your engine work harder and consume more fuel.

3. Extend Tyre Life: Correct tyre pressures reduce uneven tyre wear which extends the life of your tyres. The benefit is lower maintenance costs and fewer tyre replacements over the life of the your vehicle.

4. Environmental Benefits: Correct tyre pressure results in lower fuel consumption that helps reduce your vehicles carbon emissions and footprint. Less tyre wear also means reduced rubber and dust particles being produced by tyres that are wearing unevenly producing more tyre rubber dust than normal.

What happens when I replace my tyres?

Your tyre installer can order new sets of TPMS sensors specific to your vehicle and ensure all TPMS systems are reset and working correctly. Use our TPMS sensor search to find the right sensor for your vehicle.

Do I need to balance my tyres after installing a TPMS sensor?

No. TPMS sensors have a negligible weight impact and tyre balancing is not compromised or altered.

Where do I get my TPMS sensors installed?

Almost all TYREDOG™ TPMS sensor kits and parts can be installed with minimal use of tools and technical knowledge.

TYREDOG™ Tyre Pressure Monitoring System kits with 4 wheels or more including internal TPMS sensors may need to be installed by mechanics, auto electricians and tyre retailers.

What pressure should I inflate my tyres to?

All Australian compliant vehicles are required to affix a load and tyre pressure label on the driver side door pillar. This sticker outlines the correct tyre pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Check the owners manual also for further information on recommended tyre pressures.

How do I check my vehicles tyre pressure?

Almost all service stations and convenience stores have AIR & WATER bays with digital pressure gauges that easily allow you to set and obtain the correct tyre pressure. Correct pressures are achieved when the buzzer, beep or audible tone meets your pre-set pressure.

Many aftermarket tyre pressure testing gauges are available from automotive parts stores and major retailers.

Are the Sensors Water and Dust Proof and will they handle river crossings?

Yes, the TYREDOG™ wireless Sensors have been designed to be externally completely sealed.

This means they are Water, Dust and Mud Proof and river crossings will not be a problem.

Just be sure they are rinsed off after entering any salt water.

Each Sensor has a rubber Seal which prevents water, condensation, dirt, dust and mud from damaging the device.

What is the estimated battery life and where can I purchase them?

External Type (X) Sensors - The Estimated Battery Life will be approximately 1 year. It all depends on how often or how many hours the vehicle is used and the quality of the battery.

Each sensor contains 1 x 3V CR1632 Battery. The cost of a replacement battery will range from $3 to $6 and are available from most supermarkets and leading electronic stores. Alternatively you can purchase them through our website in the Spare Parts Section.

TDA-4C / TD-1XXX series Monitor / Receiver - The Estimated Battery Life depends on the model of your kit and also depends on how often the device is being used. Generally up to 12 Months for standard LCD screen passenger vehicle models (TDA-4C/TD-1000A)

For all other colour screen models, the monitors must be powered by the 12v cigarette lighter plug. The colour monitors only require batteries for programming purposes if you need to take the monitor out of the vehicle. If using batteries, the colour monitor will switch off 30 seconds after the last button press.

The Monitor / Receiver will contain 2 standard AAA or AA batteries (Depending on the model).

TD-2XXX series Monitor / Receiver - The TD2700F models are required to be powered by the supplied 12V/24V cigarette lighter adapter. The monitors only require batteries for programming purposes if you need to take the monitor out of the vehicle.

The TDA-4C, TD-1XXX and TD-2XXX series all come with a DC adaptor which can also be used the power the Monitor / Receiver. (Note: TDA-4C, TD-1XXX are compatible with 12V DC only where as the TD-2XXX series is 12V/24V DC compatible)

Can the TPMS tyre sensors be secured further?

Each TYREDOG™ kit contains a SecureFit fixing ring which once installed will help secure the sensor and lock it with added benefits of acting as a anti-theft device.

What should the Low Pressure, High Pressure & High Temperature alarms be set to?

Alarm Thresholds can be set for each axle meaning you can set different values for the front and rear tyres if required.

Low Pressure Alarms we recommend setting this at around 10-15% below your Cold Tyre Pressure.

High Pressure Alarm we recommend setting this at around 20-25% above your Cold Tyre Pressure.

High Temperature Alarm we recommend setting this at 70 Deg C.

Please refer to this Table below for some recommended settings which can be used as a guide for setting your thresholds.

Can I replace a lost or damaged Sensor?

Yes you can order and program replacement LEARNABLE sensors for the complete range of TYREDOG™ products.

Each unit has a learning mode which allows the user to program in new replacement LEARNABLE sensors.

When ordering replacement Sensors, you must ensure you order the correct Sensor to suit your model, sensor type and the correct Wheel Position must be ordered. Sensor type is determined by removing the battery cover and battery then checking the colour of the label underneath where the battery is normally positioned.

For Example:  If you require a new Sensor Number 2, then you must order a Sensor Number 2.

Replacement LEARNABLE sensors are available for each tyre location.

Go to the Spare Parts section on this site to find the complete range of available Sensors.

Why isn't one or more of my sensors working?

If any one of your sensors stop working, please remove the battery from that sensor and replace with a battery from a known working sensor.

Providing the monitor is on, as soon as you insert the known working battery, the sensor should come online.

If this fixes your problem, then you'll need to purchase a replacement battery.

If this doesn't fix the problem, then you will need to contact us or your place of purchase so the problem can be resolved.

Sensors working intermittently on Relay kits (TD-2000A-X/TD-2300A-X/2700F-X). Firstly please make sure the relay has been mounted outside & underneath the vehicle. If the relay is mounted inside the vehicle or under a bonnet, your device may work intermittently. It will need to be repositioned to outside the vehicle.

Check Sensors are within range of the relay.

If this doesn't fix the problem, then you will need to contact us or your place of purchase so the problem can be resolved.

How do I inflate or deflate the tyres once the Sensors have been fitted?

If the SecureFit rings have been fitted, using the allen key tool supplied, simply loosen the SecureFit Ring then unscrew the sensor. If the SecureFit rings are not fitted then the sensor simply unscrews and you can then inflate or deflate your tyres.

If the optional 3-way valve has been fitted, then you simply remove the valve cap on the 3-way valve and inflate / deflate your tyres as normal. (There is no need to remove the sensor if the 3-way valve is used - These are only suitable for Trucks and Buses or vehicles which contain a deep dish rim and metal valves.

How do I know if the batteries are going flat?

The TYREDOG™ wireless Tyre Pressure and Monitoring system monitor / receiver will show a battery Icon for both the Monitor and the individual Sensor when it's time to replace the battery.

Once the icon appears, we suggest that you replace the appropriate battery within a few days. This will ensure your tyres are always protected.

What is the maximum transmission range for the sensors?

Transmission range is around 20-30 metres line of sight. However as the sensors transmit via Radio Frequency, the vehicle shape, size of the vehicle and the metal structure reduces this range to 5-10 meters (less than 5m for internal type sensors). Sometimes more, sometimes less. This is why the passenger vehicle models are not suitable for towing applications.

To increase the transmission range, the TYREDOG™ TD-2700F-X Series contains a Relay / Repeater Module.

This module is required for Trucks, Buses, Motor Homes, Heavy Duty Vehicles and Vehicles with a Trailer or Caravans.

The Relay / Repeater module must be mounted within 5-10 metres range of the Sensors (closer the better) but the Relay/Repeater can be up to around 60-80 metres away from the monitor / receiver.
